Canada’s NEXXICE fourth at French Cup
Figure skating – ROUEN, France – NEXXICE from Burlington, Ont., couldn’t gain ground on the leaders in its free skate Saturday and placed fourth at the French Cup synchronized skating competition.
Paradise from Russia was the winner with 199.16 points, the Rockettes from Finland were second at 196.98 and Team Unique, also from Finland, third at 193.76. NEXXICE, fourth after Friday’s short program, followed at 183.72.
There were 13 entries.
The skaters for NEXXICE were Cassandra Black, Madina Asrorova, Nadine Banholzer, Kelly Britten, Sarah Burns, Laura Emery, Ariana Gould-Tasoojy, Celina Hevesi, Emma Kim, Jamie Kosonic, Jenna Mackenzie, Megan MacLellan, Caroline Marr, Courtney McNaughton, Morgan Dykstra Stang, Kiersten Tietz, Alessandra Toso, Victoria Smith, Taylor Walker and Brooklyn Williamson.
NEXXICE senior, the 2016 Canadian silver medallists, was the sole Canadian entry. They last competed at the French Cup in 2013 and placed sixth. Last season, they placed fourth at the ISU Shanghai Trophy, and seventh at the 2016 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships. Nine-time consecutive Canadian champions (from 2007-2015), they are coached by Shelley Simonton Barnett and Anne Schelter.
This is a big year for synchronized skating in Canada with the world junior championships set for Mississauga, Ont., March 10-11 at the Hershey Centre.
