Diving – DRESDEN, Germany – Henry McKay of Ottawa took fifth spot on men’s three-metre in the 16-18 age group on Thursday at the Dresden International diving competition.
Shutaro Naka of Japan was the winner with 522.60 points. Adrian Abadia of Spain was second at 508.60 and Antonio Volpe of Italy third at 501.65.
‘’It went pretty well but I can definitely do better,’’ said Henry, 18, who scored 486.10. ‘’I went into it just having learned a new hurdle and that threw me off especially in the preliminaries. In the finals it was better.’’
Henry has added a new twisting dive to his list to increase his level of difficulty.
‘’It went really well for my first time competing it,’’ he said about the forward two and half somersaults with two twists in pike position. ‘’I’m excited about doing it again over the next couple of competitions. To have that dive increases my skills and allows me to reach a higher level of competition.’’
Canada has three entries at this age group event. Cedric Fofana of Quebec City and Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont., are the others.
Competition runs through to Sunday.
