Volleyball Canada – LIMA, Peru, June 25, 2017 – Canada finished sixth overall at the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.

Canada fell to Cuba on Sunday. Heidy Casanova scored a cup-record 41 points in leading Cuba to the 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22) victory over Canada in the match for fifth place at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum in Lima.

Casanova broke the previous tournament record of 37 points established by Dominican Sidarka Nuñez against United States on May 5, 2008.  She scored 38 attacks and added three blocks. Regla Gracia and Daymara Lescay added 15 and 14 points in the victory.

Shainah Joseph (Ottawa, ON) finished the match with 25 points for Canada and Michaela Reesor (Caledon, ON) added 12.     

Canada also finished sixth last year; and fifth in 2015.

The U.S. won gold, followed by the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico picked up the third podium position. 

Next for Canada’s team is FIVB Women’s Grand Prix, which officially begins on July 07.
