Ultimate Canada – The World Championships of Beach Ultimate took place in Royan, France last week culminating on Saturday, June 24. Ultimate Canada sent teams in all seven divisions (mixed, women’s, open, mixed masters, women’s masters, open masters and open grandmasters). Canada brought home three silver medals and two bronze medals after a week of intense competition against the best beach ultimate teams in the world.

Jordan Meron was one of the team captains of the Canadian Mixed team last week in Royan. The team dropped a close game 12-10 at the hands of the United States in the finals. Despite the heartbreak of a finals loss, Meron was nothing but proud of her team for the weeklong battle.

“I am incredibly proud of the way the team played,” she said. “My teammates stepped up to the challenge each and every game, getting better each point.”

The 27-year-old Toronto native has represented Canada on more than one occasion playing both beach and grass Ultimate. She says the beach game tightens the gap between countries and makes the game more exciting.

“With games being so short, the margin for error in beach ultimate is so much smaller. It really feels like anything can happen in a beach game,” she said. This was Meron’s sixth time representing Canada and is proud each and every time.

“It is an amazing honour to represent Canada as a world stage,” she said. “We are so lucky and proud to represent a country as wonderful as ours.”

Final Results for Team Canada:

Mixed Division: Silver Medal

Women’s Division: Fourth place

Open Division: Eighth Place

Mixed Masters Division: Silver Medal

Women’s Masters Division: Silver Medal

Simultaneously, the World Great Grand Masters Beach Ultimate Championships was taking place in Praia do Meco, Portugal for athletes of 48 years old and above. Team Canada secured the silver medal bringing Canada’s medal total to six over the two events.
