Canada Soccer – Canada will face Haiti on Sunday for CONCACAF’s third and final ticket to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016. Following an 0:5 loss to USA in the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship semi-finals, Canada will look to revenge a group-phase loss to Haiti in the 13 March match for third place.

CONCACAF’s match for third place will kick off at 15.00 local (14.00 ET / 11.00 PT) at the Grenada Athletic Stadium in St. George’s, GRN. The CONCACAF Grand Final, featuring Mexico and USA, will kick off at 18.00 local (17.00 ET / 14.00 PT).

“The Haiti game should be a different game,” said Bev Priestman, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National U-17 Coach. “Their strategy last time was ‘defend for your life,’ but Sunday will be a different game. If they want to get to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, their tactics could be different, they could open the game more and we are really excited to play Haiti in that state.

“We learned from the last one, but we go into this game knowing that they will have at some point to attack.”

Canada have posted two wins and two losses in four matches at this year’s CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship. After wins against Guatemala (3:0) and hosts Grenada (7:0), Canada fell late to group winners Haiti (1:2) in the group finale.

Canada are four-time CONCACAF women’s youth champions, twice at the U-20 level and once each at the U-17 and U-15 levels. Canada have participated in all four FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cups since the biennial tournament was initiated in 2008, including three trips to the quarter-final phase.

Between 2014 and 2015, Canada were the only nation in the world to finish top-8 in three FIFA women’s competitions (sixth place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, sixth place at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014, and eighth place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2014).

MATCH REPORT: CANADA 0:5 USA

Canada fell to their rivals USA in the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship, losing 0:5 on Friday 11 March at the Grenada Athletic Stadium in St. George’s, GRN. The Americans scored twice in the first half and three more times in the second half, including a pair of late goals after the match was out of reach.

The CONCACAF semi finals were Canada’s first of two chances to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016, with a second chance this Sunday in the CONCACAF match for third place. USA’s goalscorers in the Friday victory were Alexa Spaanstra (32′), Jordan Canniff (45’+1), Civana Kuhlmann (54′), Sophia Smith (90’+1), and Frankie Tagliaferri (90’+3). The possession ended even, as Canada had 51% of the ball during the game, but they gave up 25 shots in total, including 16 on target.
