Canada Soccer – Canada Soccer National EXCEL 14-17 director Bev Priestman is getting a strong start to 2016, a women’s U-17 World Cup year, with a National Excel development camp in Vaughan, ON.

Priestman has brought 24 players into camp, as she prepares to select the team that will represent Canada at the 2016 CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship taking place in Grenada 3-13 March 2016. The top three teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan in September and October 2016.

With an exciting and challenging 2016 ahead for the 14-17 National EXCEL group, the first contact of the year will provide an opportunity to build on the 2015 curriculum covered, while preparing and assessing the players ahead of the 2016 CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship .

“Our focus for this camp is to equip these young players with the confidence, knowledge and skills to be able to perform in a tournament setting and achieve key benchmarks against the various opponents Canada is likely to face,” said Priestman. Since our September 2015 camp, many players have progressed up the system and gained invaluable experience and with some youth players currently with the WNT, it has provided an opportunity for other players to be assessed in the EXCEL environment.”

Canada Soccer’s U14-17 Girl’s National EXCEL Camp will run 11 – 19 January, before Canada learns who they will face in the 2016 CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship at the draw taking place in Grenada 21 January.
