Canada Snowboard – Vancouver, B.C.– Canada Snowboard is proud to announce a partnership with Burton Snowboards, which recently inked a three-year deal as Canada Snowboard’s exclusive Freestyle team supplier. Burton’s partnership with Canada Snowboard will run through the 2018/2019 season and will include outfitting all Canadian Freestyle athletes, coaches, and support staff (Halfpipe, Slopestyle, Big Air) with outerwear and soft goods at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

One of snowboarding’s most iconic and storied brands, Burton already sponsors several Canadian national team athletes including Mark McMorris (Regina, SK), Mikey Ciccarelli (Ancaster, ON) and Darcy Sharpe (Comox, BC). The partnership, including wearing Burton at the Olympics, is something that McMorris is looking forward to:

“I think this partnership is huge. Burton is a snowboard company by snowboarders for snowboarders. They make the best product hands down, and to have the team riding the best of the best will be amazing.”

Burton has had a long and successful Olympic history with US Snowboarding, with several American Olympic medalists proudly wearing their outerwear over the past three Olympic Winter Games. This new partnership will bring that Olympic pedigree to Canadian athletes, working collaboratively to create a unique line of outerwear for the team.

“I’m very happy to have a brand that I trust and love to ride be a partner for the 2018 Winter Olympics. I’m expecting something technical with some fashion-forward hints as I know Burton’s Chief Creative Officer, Greg Dacyshyn, will do a stand-up job.” McMorris added.

Already hard at work designing Canada’s Freestyle team’s Olympic outerwear, Burton will involve Canada Snowboard athletes and members of its high performance team over the next few months in the design process with the goal of creating iconic, functional and truly Canadian outerwear.

“As a proud Canadian, it’s an honour to design Burton’s first Olympic outerwear collection for the Canadian Freestyle Olympic Snowboarding team,” said Greg Dacyshyn, Chief Creative Officer at Burton. “Canada is home to some of the best snowboarders in the world, and we look forward to designing outerwear that Canadian snowboarders will be proud to wear at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.”

This partnership reflects Canada’s commitment to establish itself as one of the world’s leading nations in competitive snowboarding. Canadian riders have dominated Slopestyle and Big Air over the past few years, taking home twelve Burton US Open medals and seven X Games Slopestyle gold medals since 2011. Canadian males also dominated last season’s LAAX Open, sweeping the top five spots.

This agreement also aims to support Canadian snowboarding from grassroots programs to events, including the Sport Chek Air Nation Nationals presented by Burton.
