Dear Mayor Nenshi, Councillor Sutherland, and Councillor Woolley,

We would like to write to you to express Canada Snowboard’s support of Calgary’s bid for the 2026 Winter Olympic & Paralympic Games and the November 13th Plebiscite. Having already welcomed the world to a previous Winter Games, and home to some world class sporting venues, the city of Calgary would make an ideal host for athletes, coaches, and fans from around the world.

A legacy from the games in 1988, Canada Olympic Park (COP) has been instrumental in developing competitive snowboarding in Canada. Several members of our National team program reside and ride in Calgary, as COP’s Halfpipe is home to several National Team training camps and is frequently used by top riders from all over the world. We believe that these legacy venues, and the World Cup and national level events that they have hosted, have directly contributed to Canada’s Olympic snowboarding success. By hosting both a new World Cup and our National Championships this upcoming season, Calgary continues to cement itself as a premier sports hosting city worldwide.

Both the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games present a unique opportunity for both the city of Calgary and the country as a whole. Increased accessibility across the city, revamped and updated sporting infrastructure, as well as involving and inspiring millions of Canadians are only a few of the positive impacts a successful bid will have.

We kindly ask Calgary City Council to allow Calgarians the chance to participate in the November 13 plebiscite and to continue to support Calgary’s sporting future.

Sincerely,

Dustin Heise
