Volleyball Canada – Canada’s men’s B team beat Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-16) on Wednesday, and face Brazil today for the top spot in pool B at the 13th Men’s Pan American Cup at the Arena Cordoba in Cordoba, Mexico. Canada and Brazil are both unbeaten so far in the tournament that will determine five Pan American Games’ berths.

Brandon Koppers led Canada with 14 points against Dominican Republic; followed by Blake Scheerhoorn with 13 points and middle blocker Justin Duff added 10 points.

Blake Scheerhoorn said: “We’ve been preparing all summer; we came here to develop and get better with every single game.” In a classic rivalry at the U21 Men’s Continental Championship in Havana, Cuba, the United States edged Canada 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 26-24) for top spot in their pool yesterday. Canada plays in today’s quarterfinals against Barbados (4 pm local/ET).

Also on Wednesday, Canada recorded its first win of the tournament at the U18 Women’s Continental Championship 3‐0 (25‐17, 25‐14, 25‐13) over Costa Rica, placing third in group A, and advancing to the quarterfinals. The U18 team now plays host Honduras in the quarterfinals today (8 pm local/10ET).
