Canada In Group H For Fiba Basketball World Cup 2019
Canada Basketball – SHENZHEN (China) – The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Draw, presented by Wanda, took place in front of 8,000 spectators at Shenzhen Bay Arena on Saturday evening.
The draw sets out the path for the 32 participating teams in their journey to be crowned world champions when FIBA’s flagship competition concludes on September 15.
Canada will take on Australia (August 31), Lithuania (September 2) and Senegal (September 4) in Group H for the Group Phase – 1st round. Games will be played in Dongguan from August 31 – September 5. Canadian fans will be able to watch each game live on DAZN.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the 2nd Round. The results of the three games from the 1st Round carry over to this 2nd Round.
The top two teams from Group H (Canada, Senegal, Australia and/or Lithuania) will combine with the top two teams from Group G (Dominican Republic, France, Germany and/or Jordan) to form Group L. Every team plays against the two teams in their group that they did not face in the 1st Round, for a total of 16 games. (2 games per team, 4 games per group).
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Quarter-Finals.
Canada’s appearance at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will be the team’s 14th at the tournament and the first since the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China (Aug. 31-Sept. 15, 2019) will be the biggest edition of FIBA’s flagship event with a record 32 participating teams playing 92 games over 16 days.
For the first time, the FIBA Basketball World Cup will qualify seven teams directly for the following year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Canada must finish either first or second in the Americas zone to earn a direct berth.
Global sporting icon and World Cup Ambassador Kobe Bryant, together with American best-selling singer/songwriter Jason Derulo, headlined the star-studded event.
The milestone event on the Road to China 2019 took place under the watchful eye of FIBA President Horacio Muratore, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis and representatives from the 32 participating national teams, including Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) President Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian, captain of the Chinese team. They were joined by members of FIBA’s Executive Committee and Central Board, as well as by high-ranking officials from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and representatives from the eight host cities.

Tickets for the World Cup went on sale earlier this month with the launch of the Team Pass. Following the draw, all 32 teams know their opponents in the First Round of the Group Phase and in which city they will play their games.
