Canada Games Council – (September 27th, 2018) Red Deer, AB – The Canada Games Council (CGC) Board has welcomed recent additions to its governance team.

Following a national call for interest and a comprehensive review by the Nominations Committee, the following individuals were welcomed to the CGC Board of Directors at recent meetings in Red Deer.

“We’re thrilled to announce that Cheri Bradish and Catherine Gosselin-Deprés have joined the Canada Games Council Board of Directors,” says Tom Quinn, Canada Games Council Chairman. “Catherine and Cheri bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience and will both be key members that will contribute to the evolution of the Canada Games property.”

Cheri has a PhD in Sport Management and has extensive experience in the sport marketing sector. Cheri is currently the Loretta Rogers Research Chair in Sport Marketing at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University and has received numerous academic distinctions, recently winning the Research Recognition Award and the SPMA Service Award. Cheri also plays an active role for Women in Sport, sitting on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) and on the Advisory Board for Women in Sports Tech (WiST). Cheri has also been a Games volunteer, performing the role of Commercial Rights Management Specialist for the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

‘’I am excited to be joining the Canada Games Council Board of Directors and look forward to contributing my skills to help evolve the property,” says Bradish. “I am keen to help the Board shape the future of the Canada Games as the property continues to catalyze the development of its participants.”

Catherine is the Executive Director of Sport with the Canadian Paralympic Committee.  Her work there includes relationships with Canada’s National Sport Organizations, the Canadian Olympic Committee, Own the Podium, government partners and Organizing Committees for the Paralympic Games.  

‘’I want to thank the nominating committee for this opportunity and I am thrilled to be joining the Canada Games Board of Directors,” says Gosselin-Deprès. “I am looking forward to contributing my experience, skills and knowledge of  Multi-Sport Games and my NSO experience to the Council to keep moving our overall Canadian System and create the best experience for athletes, coaches, and officials for the future of our country and the Canada Games.’’

Catherine has been the operational and performance lead for the Paralympic Games in Sochi, Rio, and most recently in PyeongChang. She was named one of the “Five to Watch” under 40 in Canadian sport business by George Brown College.

“Canada Games is a world-class example of an inclusive event incorporating opportunities for athletes of all abilities, and is an important component of the Paralympic sport system in Canada,” said Karen O’Neill, CEO, Canadian Paralympic Committee. “We are thrilled to see someone like Catherine, who has such comprehensive experience across all levels of Olympic and Paralympic sport, join the Canada Games Council Board. She will be a strong representative for the sports community, as she is an ardent ambassador for sport in Canada and brings tremendously valuable expertise to the table.”

During these meetings, the CGC Board also took the time to recognize the immense contributions of two outgoing members, Paul Flaherty and Wayne Carew, who have served on the CGC Board for 9 years,

Both lent their invaluable expertise and passion to the property and the Board extends its sincere gratitude to them for their tireless dedication.

About the Canada Games

Held once every two years, alternating between winter and summer, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition for up and coming Canadian athletes. The Games have been hosted in every province at least once since their inception in Quebec City during Canada’s Centennial in 1967. The Games are proud of their contribution to Canada’s sport development system in addition to their lasting legacy of sport facilities, community pride and national unity.   

The 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer will be held from February 15th to March 3rd. The 2021 Canada Summer Games will be held in the Niagara Region.  The organization of the Canada Games is made possible thanks to the contribution and support of the Government of Canada, provincial/territorial governments, host municipalities and the Canada Games Council.
