Canada Games Council – The Canada Games and Konica Minolta are thrilled to announce the #FlagBearerFriday Campaign, where each Friday we will announce an athlete alumni who will be carrying the Canada Games Flag during the 2017 Canada Summer Games Opening Ceremony.

Flag Bearers will carry the property’s iconic Flag throughout the MTS centre come July 28th when the 50th anniversary Games will officially kick-off.

“We are very excited to announce our list of Canada Games ambassadors who will have the honour of carrying our Flag during the Opening Ceremony of our 50th anniversary Games,” said Tom Quinn, Canada Games Council Chairman. “These Flag Bearers are true Canadian icons that have used the Canada Games as a stepping stone to great national and international success.”

The Flag itself is currently on a national trip, from coast-to-coast-to-coast, visiting each community who has hosted the Canada Games over the past 50 years. The Flag Relay kicked off on February 11th in Quebec City, 50 years to the day of when the first Canada Winter Games took place.

The Flag Bearer tradition for the 2017 Canada Games has been made possible thanks to the support of National Partner Konica Minolta.

“We’re proud to partner with the Canada Games to help nurture and support these outstanding athletes,” said Chris Dewart, president and CEO, Konica Minolta Business Solutions (Canada) Ltd.  “This important program pays homage to their athletic excellence and we’re thrilled to support and encourage  their commitment to be Canada’s best.”
