Canada Basketball – TORONTO, Ont. (July 6, 2019) – Team Canada fell to Czech Republic on Saturday evening 21-19 to finish second at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Poitiers.

Entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed, Katherine Plouffe, Paige Crozon, Brittany Johnson and Catherine Traer represented Canada this weekend in France.

Behind a 17 point performance from Plouffe in the semifinals, Canada defeated the Netherlands for the second time in as many days to advance to the final against Czech Republic.  

On Friday, Canada opened the tournament with a 15-12 victory over France as Plouffe finished with a team-high six points and 14 rebounds.  After falling in a close game to Belarus 17-15, Canada bounced back as they doubled up the Netherlands 18-9.  The Dutch team had no answer for Plouffe as she scored a game-high 14 points for Canada in the victory.  

The FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series is the first-ever FIBA 3×3 competition dedicated to women.  Each national federation can register one team at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series. Teams then qualify for individual events based on the number of events they have already been allocated to and their team ranking.

The Women’s Series Poiters is the third event of the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series 2019.  The 2019 season will consist of 8-12 events from May to September.  Canada finished fourth overall in their FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series debut in Turin.

Canada returns to action next weekend at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Lignano (July 13-14). All games will be streamed live via FIBA 3×3 YouTube.

Australia claimed the first stop of the inaugural FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series in Chengdu, China, while France finished atop the podium at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Turin.
