Canada finishes Jr Pan Am Trampoline Championships with six medals including three gold
Gymnastics Canada – COCHABAMBA, BOL (June 24, 2018) – Team Canada wrapped up a tremendous competition on Saturday at the 2018 Trampoline Gymnastics Junior Pan American Championships in Cochabamba, Bolivia, taking home three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.
Jérémy Chartier of Montreal, QC dominated the men’s trampoline event, winning the gold medal and securing a spot for Canada at the upcoming Youth Olympic Games taking place in October in Argentina. Chartier’s score of 57.600 was almost two points ahead of the competition.
“It was a stressful week with it being a qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games, but I stayed calm and was able to bring my strong routines from training into the competition with me,” said Chartier following competition. “I stuck to the plan and it worked out for me. It’s always a big honour to represent your country but to also qualify Canada for a spot at Youth Olympic Games and winning a gold medal while doing so made me really proud.”
Siblings Gavin and Kristina Dodd of Kamloops, BC had incredible routines in the double mini-trampoline competition, both taking home gold medals.
“I was really happy with my performance this weekend,” said Gavin Dodd. “I was able to do all my passes the way I wanted to and I was able to improve upon what I’ve done before with these passes. I really enjoyed spending time with the entire team, getting to know everyone, and enjoying the entire experience.”
“I’m really happy with how I performed throughout the championship,” said Kristina Dodd. “I came into the competition feeling really confident about my passes and my routines and I don’t think I could have done anything else. Heading into nationals next month, I’ll be working on landings and sticking my passes.”
In the women’s synchronized trampoline final, Alexandra Boucher of Calgary, AB and Jordyn Yendley of Kelowna, BC finished with the silver medal, while Declan McLean of Burnaby, BC and Kai Dwyer of Fall River, NS captured the bronze medal in the men’s synchronized trampoline final. Yendley also joined Kristina Dodd on the women’s DMT podium securing the silver medal.
All athletes will next head to the Canadian Championships in Trampoline Gymnastics, set to take over the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, AB from July 4th to 8th.
