Softball Canada​ – Santo Domingo, D.R. – Team Canada dropped a 5-0 playoff game to Mexico at the IX Pan American Women’s Softball Championship as Mexican pitcher Dallas Escobedo limited Canada to three hits. Canada will now take on the United States in the Bronze medal game at 1:30pm EDT, with the winner of that game facing Mexico at 4:00pm EDT in the Gold medal game.
 
After both teams were sit down in order in the first, Mexico opened the scoring in the second by getting a one-out single followed by a two-run homerun to left. Holly Speers (Surrey, B.C.) hit a leadoff double for Canada in the bottom of the inning, but she was left stranded on third after a pair of fly outs and a strikeout. Mexico doubled its lead in the third by taking advantage of an error and scoring on an RBI double and a run-scoring single for a pair of unearned runs. Larissa Franklin (Maple Ridge, B.C.) hit a one-out single for Canada in the bottom of the frame and advanced to second on a ground out but she was also left stranded.
 
After a quick fourth inning, Mexico added its fifth run on a double in the top of the fifth. Erika Polidori (Brantford, Ont.) led off the bottom of the inning with a single but could not advance any further as the next three batters were retired. Neither team was able to get much going over the last two innings as Mexico took the 5-0 win.

Sara Groenewegen (Surrey, B.C.) suffered the loss for Canada, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out two batters over two innings. Karissa Hovinga(Edmonton, Alta.) gave up two unearned runs on three hits in two innings of relief, while Sara Plourde (Baker Lake, N.B.) pitched the last three innings allowing one run on five hits and notching four strikeouts.
 
With the loss, Canada will play in the Bronze medal game against the United States at 1:30pm EDT on Sunday, as the Americans defeated Venezuela 8-2 to advance. The winner of the game between Canada and the United States will move on to face Mexico in the Gold medal game at 4:00pm EDT.
