Ringette Canada – Ottawa, Ontario – October 18, 2018– Ringette Canadatoday announced that Burnabyhas been selected as the host for the 2019 World Ringette Championships. The event, which will be held in November 2019 will be co-hosted by the Lower Mainland Ringette League and Ringette BC. The world championships will see the top ringette athletes in the world compete for junior and senior gold. 

“We are very excited to once again be hosting the World Ringette Championships in Canada and showcasing our sport on the international stage,” said Natasha Johnston, Ringette Canada’s Executive Director.“Burnaby is a destination city in Canada with experience in hosting major world events and we are confident the host committee will hold a memorable event for ringette fans from across the world.” 

Participating teams are still being finalized, but it is expected that six International Ringette Federation member countries will compete – Canada, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden and the USA. Following the last event in Mississauga, Canada holds the junior world title and Finland holds the senior world title. 

“We are thrilled that Ringette Canada has chosen Burnaby as the host community for the 2019 World Ringette Championships,” says Mayor Derek Corrigan, City of Burnaby. “The city is becoming the preferred home for many world-class events and we are achieving our goal of bringing venues, resources and people together to enable high-level sporting competitions that generate positive social, sport and economic outcomes across our community. We look forward to welcoming the world to our city in 2019.”

“The Lower Mainland Ringette League (LMRL) is honoured to be given the opportunity to host the World Ringette Championships,” said Mike Stadnyk, President, Lower Mainland Ringette League. “The LMRL has over 1100 athletes from Hope all the way to Squamish, so we are excited to expose our players to ringette of this calibre and this event will have a lasting impact and legacy on ringette in BC.”

“In 2012, Burnaby hosted an amazing Canadian Ringette Championships and Ringette BC is very excited to welcome the ringette community to Burnaby in 2019 to once again show Canada and the world a quality ringette competition,” said Nicole Robb, Executive Director, Ringette BC. “Ringette BC is thrilled to be a part of this momentous event, as this is the first World Ringette Championships to be hosted in BC, and it will be an amazing opportunity for our ringette players to experience the highest level of ringette.”
