British Columbia and Ontario lead the way from coast to coast at the Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships
Canada Soccer – From the 640 teams and 12,000 participants across the country that began the journey, six national champions were crowned on Teck Final Days at the Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships.
British Columbia defeated Ontario to win the 2018 Challenge Trophy competition in Saskatoon, SK. Surrey beat Caledon SC 6:3 in the Challenge Trophy Gold Medal Final on Teck Finals Day. Ontario’s Scarborough GS United had captured the 2018 Jubilee Trophy on Day 5.
British Columbia teams won both competitions at the 2018 U-17 Cup in Surrey, BC. Coastal FC won the Girls U-17 Cup and Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC won the Boys U-17 Cup.
Ontario’s Woodbridge Strikers and British Columbia’s Mountain United won the Boys and Girls U-15 Cup competitions in Laval, QC, respectively.
“Congratulations to the players, coaches, managers, and families of the newly-crowned National Champions,” said Canada Soccer President Steven Reed.
“This competition is a truly monumental grassroots effort. Our appreciation goes out to the Local Organizing Committees and Member Associations, and their support staff, officials, volunteers, and fans in Laval, Saskatoon, and Surrey,” Reed added.
Surrey BC Tigers Hurricanes win 2018 Challenge Trophy and Scarborough GS United capture Jubilee Trophy in Saskatoon, SK
Surrey BC Tigers Hurricanes defeated Ontario’s Caledon SC 7:3 in the Gold Medal Final on Teck Finals Day to win the 2018 Challenge Trophy in Saskatoon, SK. Saskatoon Revolution won the Bronze Medal match 7-6 on kicks after a 1:1 draw with Holy Cross FC.
Nick Soolsma was named Most Valuable Player of the Challenge Trophy Final as well as the Golden Boot winner. He scored nine goals in the tournament, the most by a player in 18 years, including four in the championship final. The 2017-18 BC Soccer Adult Player of the Year becomes the first player to win both the amateur Challenge Trophy and professional Canadian Championship (2011 and 2012 with Toronto FC).
Surrey BC Tigers Hurricanes also ended British Columbia’s 14-year drought in the men’s competition. Before 2004, British Columbia’s longest drought had been just six years in between national titles.
Scarborough GS United win 2018 Jubilee Trophy in Saskatoon, SK
The 2018 Toyota National Championships Jubilee Trophy went to Ontario’s Scarborough GS United for the first time in six attempts. Laura Callender scored the winner in the first half of extra time to give Scarborough the 1-0 victory over Surrey United.
With the Sunday victory, Scarborough have now won national titles in both men’s and women’s soccer. They previously won gold in the men’s Challenge Trophy competition back in 2005
Scarborough captain Danielle Blair was named Most Valuable Player of the competition while Royal-Sélect Beauport’s Karyna Fiset won the Golden Boot as the top scorer.
Quebec’s Royal-Sélect Beauport earned the Bronze Medal defeating Newfoundland & Labrador’s Holy Cross FC 6:1. Alberta’s Edmonton Victoria SC took fifth place with a 7:2 victory over Halifax Dunbrack SC from Nova Scotia. Saskatoon SK Impact FC defeated Fredericton Picaroons Reds 3:0 for seventh place.
British Columbia wins both U-17 Cup titles on Teck Finals Day in Surrey, BC
Coastal FC and Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC earned U-17 Cup Gold Medal Final victories in the Boys and Girls U-17 Cup on Teck Finals Day at the 2018 Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships. Quebec’s CS Saint-Laurent fell 2:1 to BC in the Boys Final. Lakeshore SC took home the Silver Medal in the Girls Final.
Latifah Abdu earned Girls U-17 Cup Golden Boot honours with twelve goals in five games.
Suburban FC’s Liam Kelly took the Boys U-17 Cup Golden Boot home to Nova Scotia.
Quebec Lakeshore SC’s Magali Gagne earned Girls U-15 Cup Golden Boot honours with eight goals in five matches. With his hat trick in the Bronze Medal match, Edmonton Warriors SC’s Joshua Mercer took the Boys U-15 Cup Golden Boot with six goals in five matches.

OCTOBER CANADA SOCCER ACTION
The month of October features important international competitions for both the Women’s National Team and Men’s National Team as well as the coast-to-coast Toyota National Championships for premier amateur clubs. Canada #CANWNT are competing in the Concacaf Women’s Championship from 4-17 October, with a spot at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 on the line, while Canada #CANMNT are at home for a Concacaf Nations League Qualifying match on 16 October. The Toyota National Championships, meanwhile, cap off the 2018 amateur season in which more than 640 clubs and 12,000 players competed for a chance to win a national title.
