Bowls Canada Boulingrin  – Bowls Canada Boulingrin (BCB) is pleased to announce the appointment of two national team coaching staff members.

Terry Scott of Dunedin, New Zealand has been appointed as National Coach – Senior Squad.  As a previous Assistant Coach for the Bowls New Zealand Blackjacks and High Performance Squad, Scott is well-versed in the policies and procedures of coaching within a national team program. With coaching staff assignments such as Asia-Pacific Championships, Commonwealth Games and World Bowls Championships, he is no stranger to international coaching success. Appointed for a three-year term with BCB, Scott’s expertise with the strategy and technique required for success in the Southern Hemisphere conditions are a boon for Team Canada as they head ‘down under’ for all major international competitions over the next three years. “It is exciting to become part of the Canadian coaching team, where I have the opportunity to help develop the squad and achieve the results on the World stage that will take them to the next level”, said Scott.

Darryl Fitzgerald of Waterloo, Ontario has been appointed as National Coach – Development Squads.  Fitzgerald is a recent member of the Canadian High Performance Squad and is passionate about sharing the knowledge he has accumulated from training and competing at the top levels.  In addition to coaching at his home club of Heritage Greens, Fitzgerald has worked with a number of up and coming bowlers across the country.  He has coached the Canadian representatives at the last two World Youth Championships, where Canada most recently enjoyed its best results to date. “I am excited to be appointed to a coaching role for the Youth and Development Squads at a National level.  I believe I can help these aspiring athletes build up and refine their skills to achieve great results nationally and internationally,” said Fitzgerald.  Fitzgerald is also a believer in mentoring coaches and is currently working with BCB’s National Coaching Certification Program as a Coach Developer.

“I am absolutely thrilled with the direction that we are headed with coaching right now”, said BCB Executive Director Anna Mees.  “The quality of the applications received for these positions was outstanding and is a positive indication of coaching excellence that is developing within Canada.  I am excited to work with Terry and Darryl on establishing a formal network of Canadian coaching excellence.”
