Basketball Nova Scotia – (Halifax, NS) — Basketball Nova Scotia is pleased to announce Ms. Katherine Brien as its new Executive Director. She will officially assume her duties with BNS on November 26, 2018.

A native Nova Scotian, Katherine is returning home after a seven-year career with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) where, as the Manager of Community & Sports Partnerships, she oversaw the youth sport portfolio for the Toronto Raptors, Maple Leafs, Argonauts & Toronto FC. Before that, she served as Coordinator of Game Operations for the Raptors and Toronto FC, among other duties. Prior to her work with MLSE, Katherine was employed by the National Basketball Association in Events and Sponsorship where she managed the NBA’s cross-country 3-on-3 tournament and other initiatives.

Katherine played basketball for the Mount St. Vincent University Women’s Varsity Team, which won two National silver medals and saw Katherine voted a three-time All-Canadian. She is also a past BNS athlete, and a long-time volunteer coach of youth girls’ basketball.

Basketball Nova Scotia is the governing body for the sport in province with over 7,500 members, ranging from youth to adult players, which includes wheelchair athletes. Each summer, BNS selects boys and girls Provincial Teams to compete locally, nationally and internationally. In recent years, BNS has won numerous national titles, including a gold medal at last year’s U17 Boys Nationals tournament in British Columbia.
