Gymnastics Canada – WINNIPEG, MB (May 22, 2016) – Patricia Bezzoubenko of Toronto, ON captured her fourth-straight Canadian Championship title and swept the podium in all four apparatus on Sunday at the 2016 Canadian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships while Alexandra Chtrevenskii was named the junior all-around champion for the first time.

Bezzoubenko scored above 17.000 in three out of her four events to finish with a total score of 138.050 — more than 13 points higher than Carmen Whelan of Aurora, ON who finished second with 125.300 points. Katherine Uchida of Toronto, ON took bronze with a total score of 124.500. In rhythmic gymnastics, athletes perform the four apparatus over the first two days (competition A) to determine the top-15 athletes that advance to competition B on the final day. On the final day, they perform all four apparatus and their final score is a combination of both competitions.

“I feel amazing,” said Bezzoubenko who currently sits as the second reserve for the Rio Olympic Games this summer. “I did everything that I could do – I’ve done really good and thanks to my coach and my parents, and everyone that supports me. I wanted to do my best routines and I’m so happy with this.”

Chtrevenskii and Natalie Garcia battled it out in the junior competition with Chtrevenskii climbing the podium in rope and ball, while Garcia scored highest in clubs and hoop. Chtrevenskii ended up taking the overall title by three points over Garcia with a total score of 118.150; Garcia scored 115.750, while Sophie Crane of Toronto took the bronze with a total score of 106.050.
