Volleyball Canada – Canada finished fourth in the men’s and women’s event at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 4-star tournament in Yangzhou, China, this weekend.

In the women’s bronze medal match, Sara Hughes and Summer Ross of the U.S. defeated Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) and Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) 2-1 (16-21, 23-21, 15-5).

Pavan and Humana-Paredes took the first set and led in the entire second set, but at match point the momentum shifted allowing Hughes and Summer to force the tiebreaker. Hughes and Ross then dominated the third set to win the bronze medal.

Alexandra Klineman and April Ross of the United States, who beat Pavan and Humana-Paredes in the semi-finals, earned their second FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour gold medal beating Brazil’s Ana Patricia Silva and Rebecca Cavalcanti in the final.

In the men’s event, Brazil’s Gustavo Albrecht and Saymon Barbosa finished in third place as Sam Pedlow (Barrie, ON) and Sam Schachter (Richmond Hill, ON) forfeited the bronze medal match due to Pedlow’s injury.

Pedlow twisted his ankle on Saturday morning and decided to forfeit the bronze medal match as a precaution. The injury occurred in a semi-final match against Konstantin Semenov/Ilya Leshukov, the eventual gold medalists.

The next four-star event is in Las Vegas this week: http://worldtour.2018.fivb.com/en/679
