(Vancouver, BC) – June 11, 2018: The British Royal Air Force will help commemorate their one-hundred-year anniversary by playing an invitational rugby match against BC’s top male representative side, the BC Bears. The game will take place on Saturday, June 23rd, at UBC’s Gerland McGavin Rugby Centre with kickoff set for 1pm and tickets just $10.

The BC Bears will expect to be tested by the visitors in their first competitive fixture of 2018.   The game will serve as an excellent warm-up opportunity for the Bears, as they prepare to defend their Canadian Rugby Championship (CRC) title when this year’s tournament gets underway at the end of July.  The British Royal Air Force Rugby Union team has a rich history in the UK, with the Inter-Service rugby competition between Army, Navy and Air Force dating back to 1920. Crowned champions of 2018 in April, they are currently touring across Canada to commemorate the one-hundred-year anniversary of the RAF’s inception.

RAF Forwards’ Coach Justin Coleman commented on his expectations for the game, “I imagine a lot of physicality and pace from some good Canadian sides that will really test us. I’m sure the intensity will really compare to an Inter-Service game.”  The Inter-Service matches a highly regarded competition in British rugby circles, with matches between capable of drawing up to 80,000 spectators.

Not only will this be the first outing for the BC Bears since they won the 2017 CRC title in Calgary, the match will also provide a unique opportunity different affiliated groups to come along and cheer from the sidelines.  British ex-pats and other international service personnel, Veterans, current Canadian Armed Forces and general rugby fans alike will all have a reason to lend their voices to support this hotly anticipated match.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to watch Canada’s Provincial Champions take on the British Inter-Services Champions.  Tickets for the event will be available at the venue and cost just $10 per adult.  Children under 12, as well as High School students with valid ID, get in free of charge.
