Athletics Manitoba – Winnipeg, 12 February 2016 – For the second year in a row, Winnipeg’s Jennie Baragar-Petrash will represent Canada in Cross Country.  Jennie will be a member of Team Canada competing at the 2016 Pan Am Cross Country Cup, March 5 in Caraballeda, Venezuela.

Jennie Baragar-Petrash, (17) qualified for the Pan Am cup after finishing fourth in the Junior Women’s race at the Canadian Cross Country Championships in Kingston, ON in November 2015.  In 2015 Jennie represented Canada at the Pan Am Cross Country Cup where she was won a gold medal in the team competition and finished11th as an individual.  She was also a member of the team that competed at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China.

Jennie is based in Winnipeg and is a member of the Winnipeg Optimist Athletic Club coached by Scott Radley.

 “Back to back national teams is not a result that is easily achieved,” said Athletics Manitoba Executive Director, Donna Harris. “Jennie and her coach are doing great work.  I have no doubt that Jennie will arrive in Venezuela prepared and ready to compete.  Jennie will be an excellent ambassador of Manitoba and Canada.”

Cross Country is an event within the sport of Athletics in which teams and individuals run a race on a set open-air course over natural terrain. The race course, typically 4–12 kilometres in length, may include surfaces of grass, pass through woodlands and open country, and involve hills, flat ground and sometimes gravel roads.
