Nova Scotia Golf Association – The 2016 Women’s Two Ball took place today at the Digby Pines Golf Club. A total of 176 competitors competed in the one day Pinehurst competition.

When the dust settled the teams of Wendy Balser and Debbie Sutherland and Mireille LeBlanc and Paulette Dugas finished tied for first with matching scores of 71. Balser (Digby Pines) and Sutherland (Paragon) won the NSGA Women’s Two Ball Championship after an exciting 3-hole playoff. This marks the second Two Ball Championship for the team after winning their first in 2011 at the Annapolis Royal Golf Club. Balser and Sutherland have played in 28 consecutive Two Ball Champions and have finished runner up a total of three times.  

Paulette Dugas and Mireille LeBlanc of the Clare Golf Club won the first low gross in the first division. The team of Jan Gaudette and Joanie McCarville from Ashburn took the second low gross.  The first and second low net in the first went to the teams of Jen Comeau and and Adele Belliveau from Oakfield and Ashburn’s Annalie Vandenberg and Debi Karrel respectively.

In the second division action, Karen Greenman and Carla Finley from Paragon took the low gross while Cathy Beaton and Leslie Pierpont from the Antigonish Golf Club finished second overall. The first low net for the second division went to Sheila Dewar and Colleen Haire from Grandview Golf Club. While the team of Diane Leary and Peggy Cassells from the Bluenose Golf Club captured the second low net.

The team of Charlotte Taylor and Susan Hunt from Hartlen Point fired an 84 to win the third division. Sitting one stroke behind them was Anita Newman (Brightwood) and Pam Sabean (NSPPC) who carded an 85 to secure second place.  Ken-Wo’s Elaine Craig and Bonnie Lockhart had a net 61 to win the low net in the 3rd division. A net 64 from Jean McKenna and Donna Spencer from Brightwood was enough to win the second low net (3rd Division).

The fourth division was a tight race with Fredericka MacLean (NSPPC) and Jean D’Entremont (Antigonish) recorded a team score of 91 and won by retrogression over Judie Neville of Paragon and Lorraine Purcell of Avon Valley.  Retrogression also was used to determine the low net prize in fourth division. Lois Marshall and Judy Oliver from Brightwood won over Truro’s Colleen Pinkney and Susan Creelman.
