Swimming Canada – MONTE CARLO – Jeremy Bagshaw and Faith Knelson of Swimming Canada’s High Performance Centre- Victoria grazed the podium on Sunday at the third and final stop on the Mare Nostrum swimming circuit.

Knelson was fourth in the women’s 50-m breaststroke in 31.36. Yulia Efimova of Russia won gold in 30.17, Molly Hannis of the U.S. the silver in 30.63 and Macarena Ceballos of Argentina, the bronze in 30.76.

Of note, Knelson won the 100-m breaststroke B final in 1:07.49, which would have been worth the silver medal in the main final. Unfortunately she had ranked 10^th in the morning prelims just 0.2 seconds from a berth in the A final.

Bagshaw was also fourth in the men’s 200-m freestyle in 1:51.06. Katsuhiro Matsumoto of Japan won the gold in 1:48.73, Welson Sim of Malaysia was second in 1:49.54 and Kyle Stolk of the Netherlands third in 1:49.77.

Danielle Hanus of HPC –Victoria reached three finals. She posted a fifth place finish in the women’s 200-m butterfly in 2:12.59 and sixth place results in the 100-m butterfly (1:00.17) and 50-m backstroke (28.69).

Jade Hannah of Halifax reached two finals placing fifth in both the women’s 200-m backstroke in 2:15.75 and 100-m backstroke in 1:02.02.

Knelson was also seventh in the 200-m breaststroke in 2:30.10.

The Mare Nostrum is an annual three-stop one-week circuit with stop also in Barcelona and Canet-en-Rousillon, France.

Bagshaw et Knelson terminent au pied du podium au Mare Nostrum

MONTE-CARLO – Jeremy Bagshaw et Faith Knelson du centre de haute performance – Victoria se sont presque hissés sur le podium ce dimanche à la troisième et dernière étape du circuit Mare Mostrum.

Knelson a terminé 4e au 50 m brasse en 31,36. C’est la Russe Yulia Efimova qui a décroché l’or en 30,17. L’Américaine Molly Hannis l’a suivi en 30,63 et l’Argentine Macarena Ceballos a remporté le bronze en 30,76.

À noter que Knelson a aussi remporté la finale B du 100 m brasse en 1:07,49, un temps qui lui aurait permis de remporté l’argent dans la finale. Elle a malheureusement terminé en 10e place lors des préliminaires, ratant la finale par 0,2 seconde.

Bagshaw a aussi terminé en 4e place au 200 m libre en 1:51,06. Le Japonais Katsuhiro Matsumoto a remporté l’or en 1:48,73, le Malaisien Welson Sim a terminé 2e en 1:49,54 alors que le Néerlandais Kyle Stolks a décroché le bronze en 1:49,77.

Danielle Hanus du CHP-Victoria a participé à trois finales. Elle a terminé en 5e place au 200 m papillon en 2:12,59, et en 6e place au 100 m papillon (1:00,17) et 50 m dos (28,69).

Jade Hannah de Halifax a participé à deux finales (200 m dos, 2:15,75 et 100 m dos, 1:02,92) terminant en 5e place chaque fois.

Knelson a aussi pris la 7e place au 200 m brasse en 2:30,10.

Le Mare Nostrum est un circuit annuel d’une durée d’une semaine s’arrêtant également à Canet-en-Rousillon en France et à Barcelone.
