AUGER-ALIASSIME AND PELIWO INTO THE SEMIFINALS OF THE SUBARU SHERBROOKE FUTURES PRESENTED BY ROUGE FM
Tennis Canada – Crowley and Schnur win the doubles title
Montréal, March 11, 2016 – Félix Auger-Aliassime (Montréal, QC) and Filip Peliwo (Vancouver, BC) remain in title contention as semifinalists at the Subaru Sherbrooke Futures presented by Rouge FM. The US$25 000 International Tennis Federation tournament will be played until March 13 on the Christian Bourque indoor courts at the Rock Forest recreation centre in Sherbrooke.
Auger-Aliassime defeated American qualifier Mico Santiago 7-6(4), 6-3. Santiago reached the quarter-finals after top-seeded Canadian Frank Dancevic was forced to withdraw due to a right biceps injury. This will be the 15-year-old’s first semifinal appearance at a pro event. Auger-Aliassime, the no. 12 ranked junior in the world, will play for a spot in the final on Saturday against Lloyd Glasspool of Great Britain, who knocked out fifth-seeded American Eric Quigley in the quarters.
For his part, Peliwo needed 92 minutes to defeat Brit Edward Corrie, a semifinalist in Gatineau last week, 7-5, 7-5. The Vancouver native is looking to capture his fourth career ITF Futures title after winning two tournaments in 2015. Peliwo will take on rising American Stefan Kozlov in the semifinals. The 18-year-old is ranked no. 338 in the world and has two pro titles to his credit, including one earlier this year where he beat Canadian Philip Bester in the final. Kozlov was also crowned junior Wimbledon champion in 2014.
Keith-Patrick Crowley of South Africa and American Max Schnur took home the doubles title thanks to a 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-6 victory over the British duo of Luke Bambridge and Liam Broady.
Saturday’s semifinals will get underway at 11 a.m. E.T.
