Ringette Canada – The 2018 Save-On-Foods Canadian Ringette Championships is set to take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba next week (April 8-14). This will be the 40th national championships and it will commemorate a homecoming of the first ever Canadian Ringette Championships which were held in Winnipeg in 1979. I wanted to touch base with some information on the event and encourage you to take a closer look at the athletes from your area as they compete in the highest level of national play for our sport.

I will be onsite in Winnipeg throughout the event and will be sending daily updates. If you do not wish to receive these updates, please let me know and I will remove you from my event update list. If you need something specific throughout the week (i.e., photos, interviews with athletes or coaches), please let me know and I will coordinate things for you.

A total of 47 teams from across the country will compete in three divisions – U16, U19 and the National Ringette League (NRL – 19+). There will be 21 teams in the U16 division, 18 teams in the U19 division and eight teams in the NRL division. You can access a list of teams by province here: https://bit.ly/2GPUfT1. The opening ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 8, games start Monday morning, and the finals and closing ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 14.

Games will take place at the Seven Oaks Arena and BellMTS IcePlex, with finals being held at the BellMTS Place (home of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets). Competition in all divisions starts on Monday, April 9 and finals in all three divisions take place on Saturday, April 14 (U16 at 11:30 CDT, U19 at 13:30 CDT and NRL at 15:30 CDT). All-stars and the NRL Annual Awards will be announced at the closing ceremony on Saturday night.
