AthletesCAN – Ottawa (November 17 2016) – AthletesCAN is pleased to announce that applications for the 2017 Team Investors Group Amateur Athlete Fund are now open.

We invite all active national team athletes in Canada to apply to be part of the growing Team Investors Group family.

Since 2000 the Team Investors Group Amateur Athlete Fund has helped more than 300 athletes achieve their dreams. With 20 bursaries of $5,000 given out each year, Team Investors Group will have given $1.7 million directly to athletes in 2017.

“The team Investors Group Amateur Athletes bursary really helped me in the toughest year of my career,” Kirsten Sweetland, 2016 Olympic triathlete, said. “The funding leading into Rio allowed me to prepare to the best of my ability. Funding athletes directly is most beneficial model for businesses who want to help athletes and I’m so grateful I got to be a part of such a great example through Investors Group!”

Not only have recipients won more than 250 Olympic and Paralympic medals, they are also community builders and athlete leaders.

“This is our 17th year providing Canadian athletes with direct support through our Team Investors Group Amateur Athlete Fund,” Trevor Krahn, Director of Community Affairs at Investors Group, says. “Our partnership with AthletesCAN has enabled us to give $1.7 million to some of the best athletes from across Canada, who are also volunteers and community builders. Each year we add 20 athletes to our growing Team Investors Group family and each year we’re amazed by the caliber of applicants.”
