Synchro Canada – Calgary, April 29,  2016 — Andrée-Anne Côté, from St-Georges, QC, and Camille Fiola-Dion, from Rimouski, QC, won gold today in the junior duet event at the Shiseido Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships held at Talisman Centre in Calgary.

The pair from Quebec Excellence Synchro in Quebec City, who has been swimming together for three years, earned their highest routine mark of the season – 80.2000 – for a combined score of 155.2765. Maude Jobin and Charlotte Maheu-Savard, from Montreal Synchro, captured silver with 148.0493 while the Vancouver Pacific Wave pairing of Stefanie Dickinson and Luiza Vasylyeva, who was fifth after the preliminary round, climbed back to grab bronze at 146.9570.

In open international competition, Glenda Inzunza and Madison Lopez, competing under the FINA flag, won silver with a routine mark of 79.9333 and a combined score of 153.1748.

Senior Solo Free Finals
In the senior solo free finals, Ioana Gheta, from Synchro Laval, delivered a powerful rendition of her free program to capture gold with a score of 76.4000.  Brooke Brimo, from Montreal Synchro, won her second medal of the competition – silver this time after Wednesday’s gold in the tech solo – with 75.1667 while Breanne Law, from the Calgary Aquabelles, completed the podium with 73.5667.

Multiple junior solo national champion Clare McGovern, from Toronto, entered the competition as an independent and was awarded the highest score of the event, 81.2000, to also earn gold.

Senior Team Technical
In the senior team technical event, Quebec Excellence Synchro improved on its performance from the National Qualifier by more than 2 points and earned the gold medal with a score of 70.3640.

Junior Team preliminaries
In the junior teams preliminary round, the Calgary Aquabelles took the lead with a score of 153.3514, ahead of Regional Training Centre – Ontario at 151.6191 and Québec Excellence Synchro with 149.2225.  Montreal Synchro follows closely in fourth spot, with 148.1196.

In open international competition, a team competing under the FINA flag took second spot with a combined score of 153.3308.

The finals will be held on Saturday at 3:15pm.

The competition will conclude tomorrow with the exciting combo and team finals as well as the 4th Annual Synchro Canada Gala of Champions, which will feature the national champions from this week’s events, performances from international athletes as well as a few surprises.
