MEDIA RELEASE

(August 23, 2018) – Top ranking teams from across Alberta will meet in Edmonton for the Servus Youth Tier I and Tier I to Nationals Competitions this weekend.

Beginning this evening, nearly 1,000 players and coaches will face off in the hopes of earning the Provincial Title, and for those in the U15 and U17 categories, a desired spot at the Canada Soccer National Championship in either Laval, QC or Surrey, BC in early October.

“Alberta Soccer looks forward to another weekend of high-quality, entertaining soccer. Players have shown dedication in training and at games all season – ultimately earning their place at the Tier 1 to Nationals Provincial Championships,” said Alberta Soccer Executive Director, Shaun Lowther. “We are eager to see the teams compete for the right to represent Alberta at National Competition and we wish all participants the best of luck as they represent their Club and District.”

With the devastating forest fire situation in British Columbia, the Air Quality Health index in Edmonton has recently reached levels that can cause potential health impacts. Alberta Soccer will follow its “Air Aware – Air Quality Monitoring Guidelines” throughout the competition, if necessary.

All games will take place at Edmonton’s Bill Gilhespy Soccer Complex (14920 142 Street), with gold medal matches happening on Sunday, August 26th.

The full Servus Youth Tier I Provincials schedule can be found here.

Media representatives are welcome to attend throughout the weekend.
