ACA December 3 Update

Alpine Canada – It was a great day for Valérie Grenier, 22, with a career best fifth place finish in yesterday’s super-G in Lake Louise. Grenier delivered a fantastic performance with a solid run from top to bottom. Pushing out of the starting gate with bib number 32, Grenier skied her way into the top five on the leader board. This was Grenier’s best career result in any discipline on the World Cup circuit.
 
“That was amazing when I saw the number 5 on the board! I honestly couldn’t believe it, but at the same time I did, because my run felt good, it felt fast. Fifth place is just unbelievable, I’m so happy right now. In front of a Canadian crowd makes me even happier, I’m glad it is happening here. A great start for me, especially in super-G, I was feeling pretty good, I definitely wanted to do well. I was hoping for a top 15 so to be 5th shows me that I am skiing well and that I can go fast.” – said Grenier

Dustin Cook, placed 21st on Saturday, making him the top Canadian of the day and adding to his six top-25 World Cup super-G career finishes. Despite a strong race on balance, Cook struggled through a few portions of the course.  

Making the comparison to his performance from a week ago in Lake Louise, where he finished in 16th place, Cook said: “I thought I skied pretty well, a couple mistakes, but overall, it was ok. I would’ve been happy skiing a little faster obviously but I thought the attack and the charge was better than Lake Louise.” 

Roni Remme, Valérie Grenier and Marie-Michèle Gagnon finished respectively 35th, 36th and 44th on Friday at the first ladies’ downhill event in Lake Louise.

Top Canadian of the day, Ben Thomsen finished 38th, wearing bib number 29. He battled through the difficult Birds of Prey course and was feeling confident about his run.
