Sport for Life Society – Victoria, B.C. – The Sport for Life Society and Aboriginal Sport Circle invites you to attend the Aboriginal Long-Term Participant Development Pathway Workshop on November 2 and 3, prior to the 2016 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif Conference. The workshop is designed to help sport and physical activity organizations across Canada enhance their understanding about how to support Aboriginal participants and athletes in their programming.

This workshop will spend time developing an appreciation of Aboriginal culture, and how that culture plays out in terms of engagement and sustained participation through the sport system. It will outline the key elements that need to be considered when planning, developing and implementing programs for and with Aboriginal peoples and communities, including a focus on supporting the physical, mental, spiritual and cultural needs of the individual to maximize their experience in sport and physical activity. Find out how we can adjust the competition pathway and some of the policies within the system to ensure that we create a clearer pathway for Aboriginal participants and athletes.

Dorothy Paul, a Master Learning Facilitator for the Aboriginal Coaching Modules (ACM), will facilitate this session. She has facilitated more than 50 ACMs in the past 12 years. Dorothy’s workshops are focused on fun, interactive exercises with lots of games to facilitate learning.

The workshop takes place Wednesday, November 2, from 1-5pm, and Thursday, November 3, from 8:30-11:30am at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, BC. Refreshments will be provided on Wednesday afternoon, and breakfast on Thursday morning. The cost is $90 plus GST. Please register before October 28, 2016.
