A Medal of Every Colour at the 2025 Lumière Cup

Eindhoven, The Netherlands (February 22, 2025) – As day three of the 2025 Lumière Cup drew to a close on Saturday, three Canadian synchronized skating teams collected medals in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

In the senior event, Canada got to enjoy a one-two finish. Nova of Saint-Hubert, QC, who held provisional first place following the short program, held on to their lead in Saturday’s free skate, where they earned a score of 142.98 to bring their total to 218.80.

“This is amazing! We wanted to deliver two strong, clean programs here in Eindhoven, and I think we succeeded in doing that. There was room for improvement in both our performances, but still, these were our two best international competition scores,” said Alycia O’Leary, co-captain of Nova, who won silver at the recent Canadian Championships.

NEXXICE captured the silver medal in today’s competition, earning 140.18 points in the free program to bring their total to 208.64. The team from Burlington, ON, also won a silver medal at the 2025 French Cup earlier this month. Starlight Elite of Switzerland rounded out the top three with a final score of 175.98.

“We’re feeling very proud. Today, we skated for Anne, and I know she would have been proud of us. That’s what stood out for us the most about our performance today,” explained NEXXICE’s Lawren Hatfield. Skate Canada Hall of Famer Anne Schelter passed away this week after a short battle with cancer.

In the junior competition, Gold Ice of Brampton, ON, picked up a bronze medal today in Eindhoven. The bronze medallists at last week’s Hevelius Cup once again claimed the third spot on the podium on Saturday with a free program score of 116.88—the second-highest of the day—and a total of 180.49 points. Team Mystique of Finland clinched gold with 192.28 points, followed by their countrymates the Musketeers, who secured silver with 181.10.

“We were very excited, and our goal was simply to skate for ourselves. We’re proud of what we accomplished here, and proud to have earned our highest scores of the season in both the short program and the free skate,” said Sarah Vretenar, co-captain of Gold Ice Junior.

Sitting in third after the short program, Golding Ice Junior of Laval, QC, notched up 112.09 points on Saturday to finish fourth overall, with a total score of 178.68.
