PISE – (Victoria, BC – Tuesday, May 3) PISE (Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence) and the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame will host the 7th Annual Island Savings Family Sport & Recreation Festival on Saturday, May 7 from 11 am – 3 pm. The festival, which is an exciting free, half-day interactive sport and recreation expo for the family, will be at PISE, located on Camosun College’s Interurban campus.

The festival will include over 30 activities for kids of all ages to try, and it will also be a great way to introduce kids and parents to sport, recreation and physical activity opportunities in Greater Victoria. Some of the 30+ activities include Adrenaline Zipline (by donation), numerous physical literacy and sport fundamental activities, outdoor rock climbing with experts from the Boulders Climbing Gym, tennis led by PISE CEO and tennis expert Robert Bettauer, orienteering and karate, and adapted sports including wheelchair basketball, tennis and boccia.

“The festival is a great way of introducing not only kids to new and fun sports, but also parents to a wide variety of options for keeping their kids engaged in healthy, enjoyable activities, without spending a dime” says Event Coordinator, Amy Corkery. “What makes this event unique is that kids can try out all of these activities for an afternoon; they will be shown how to rock climb, how to hold a tennis racquet and hit a ball successfully over the net, and know what a karate stance looks like. Our goal is to not only give them the chance to try out a sample of different sports and activities, but hopefully excite them about what they might want to participate in, long term”.

The event is free for families to attend, and the Adrenaline Zipline will be by donation to help raise funds for the Sport Start Grant, a funding opportunity provided by PISE and Island Savings GIFT program, which provides children and youth under 19 years, who require full or partial funding in order to participate in PISE Community Programs. There will also be an opportunity to enter to win a fabulous family-focused draw prize! Parking is free, and there will be local food trucks serving their delicious creations when the kids need some fuel before heading into their next activity!

PISE is located at 4371 Interurban Road. Parking is FREE.  For more information call: 250-220-2510. www.piseworld.com/events
