Canoe Kayak Canada – DUISBURG, GERMANY (May 26, 2018) – Eleven Canadian crews made it to the big finals on day two of the International Canoe Federation World Cup 2 in Duisburg, Germany. Canada won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal on Saturday, and for the second time this season, Vincent-Lapointe and Vincent broke together a new record in the C2 event.

“It was great to see our Canadian athletes step on the podium three times today and to see so many of our crews in the A Finals,” said Anders Gustafsson, Head Coach of the sprint team at Canoe Kayak Canada. “We had some more good qualifications today and we all look forward to more chances of additional medals tomorrow. This final World Cup competition is proving to be a great learning experience for our young team and will be great for our preparations for World Championships”.

After breaking their 2017 World Best Time last week in Szeged, Laurence Vincent-Lapointe (Québec) and partner Katie Vincent (Ontario) won another World Cup gold medal in the Women’s C2 500m final. The duo beat their time by more than two seconds on Saturday, setting a fast time of 1 minute 51.428 seconds.

Also in the C2 final were Anna Roy-Cyr (Québec) and Rowan Hardy-Kavanagh (Ontario). The Canadian crew crossed the finish line a few seconds behind their teammates, placing 6^th with a time of 2:02.537.

The Men’s Kayak K2 crew of Pierre-Luc Poulin (Québec) and Nicholas Matveev (Ontario) had a strong finish placing 2^nd in a breathtaking 500m final. They won silver with a time of 1:28.776 seconds, just behind Slovakia who took gold in 1:28.627.

Also on the podium today was the C2 crew of Nadya Crossman-Serb (Manitoba) and Hannah MacIntosh (Nova Scotia). The Women’s crew placed third in the C2 200m final, taking bronze with a time of 45.1 seconds. Roy-Cyr and Hardy-Kavanagh also took part in the final finishing in 5^th place with a close time of 45.6 seconds.

Many other athletes took part in different finals during the day. On the Women’s side, Michelle Russel (Nova Scotia) placed 7th in the K1 500m final, Courtney Stott (Ontario) and Lissa Bissonnette (Québec) came 8^th in the K2 500m final and Madeline Schmidt (Ontario) finished 7^th in the Women’s K1 500m B Final.

On the Men’s side, Craig Spence (Nova Scotia) had a great final and placed 5^th in the C1 1000m, Alex Scott (Nova Scotia) and Ryan Cochrane (Québec) placed 5^th in the K2 200m final and Stephen Frodsham (Ontario) and Evan Bezemer (Ontario) came 6^th in the C2 500m final, while Tom Hall (Nova Scotia) and Bret Himmelman (Nova Scotia) finished 9^th.
