Noah Bowman Clinches Bronze in X Games Superpipe
Aspen, Colorado, January 27, 2017 – The Canadian halfpipe contingent laid it all on the line this evening during the X Games superpipe finals. Noah Bowman came out firing and set the tone for the Canadian squad. With a strong first run, he clinched third place in the men’s superpipe final.
This is a big step forward for Noah, as he looks to assert himself as a top contender among the world’s best halfpipe athletes. Noah tackled the majority of his superpipe run switch, and mixed his technicality with serious amplitude and style.
‘‘This was one of the crazier events I’ve ever seen, a lot of crashes and inconsistent riding. I’m really happy I was able to put down a run. It was a really good pipe, but so icy and fast. It was really hard to hold on and make it back into the pipe. I wanted to do more in the first run, just based on how it was going, I decided not to do one of my doubles.’’ said bronze medallist Noah Bowman.
Teammate Simon d’Artois finished 9th, and will look to bounce back in early February at the Mammoth World Cup and U.S. Grand Prix. Simon is no stranger to success, as he won gold in the superpipe at the 2015 X Games.
Cassie Sharpe finished 7th, and was the lone Canadian in the women’s final. Cassie had high hopes heading into X Games, as she won gold at the Oslo X Games last year. Cassie is the first female since Roz Groenewoud to have tasted gold on the superpipe podium. Her consistency over the past two seasons has solidified her position as a top contender on tour.
The Canadian halfpipe team has the throttle wide open as they head into the Mammoth World Cup and U.S. Grand Prix in early February.
