2016 Football Canada Cup Final Day Recap
Football Canada – Winnipeg, MB (July 16, 2016) – Quebec, the tournament’s defending champion, defeated a scrappy Saskatchewan squad to capture gold 25-8 at the 2016 Football Canada Cup on Friday July 15 at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ontario captured bronze with a 38-14 win over Alberta.
New Brunswick opened the day’s action by defeating Manitoba-Silver 25-12. The win marked New Brunswick’s first victory since rejoining the national tackle football championship in 2012 after a ten year hiatus.
Behind a hometown crowd, Manitoba-Gold finished the tournament with a 2-1 record, defeating Nova Scotia 20-14 in the fifth place game.

Seventh place game
After penalties took first half New Brunswick points off the board, the Maritime province regrouped at halftime and tallied 22 of their 25 points in the final half. The win marked New Brunswick’s first since rejoining the Football Canada Cup in 2012 after having last participated in 2002.

Fifth place game
Nova Scotia scored a pair of late first half touchdowns to go into the break tied at 14. The game stayed that way until late in the final quarter when an interception by Zane Starwiarski, his second of the game, led to the game winning score. The turnover setup a two-yard Dylan Black quarterback keeper to propel Manitoba-Gold to a 20-14 win over Nova Scotia and a fifth place finish for the host province.

Bronze medal game
Ontario bounced back from a semi-final loss at the hands of Saskatchewan to capture bronze against a tough Alberta squad. Ontario seized momentum late in the second half on a 95-yard punt return and would not look back.
