Ringette Canada – Ottawa, ON – March 16, 2016 – Ringette Canada today announced that the 2016 Canadian Ringette Championships has been declared a True Sport event. The event gets underway in London, ON on April 3rd and 48 teams from across the country will compete for national titles in the U16 and U19 divisions, as well as the National Ringette League championship.

True Sport is dedicated to the notion that good sport can make a great difference. The seven True Sport Principles are: Go for It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep it Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone and Give Back. Good sport happens when these seven principles are in play, in the right balance and proportion.

As a declared member, Ringette Canada is already committed to True Sport. By declaring the 2016 Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event, Ringette Canada aims to bring awareness to True Sport and show the Canadian sport community the culture of ringette and bring the value of good sport to ringette athletes, coaches, officials, associations and fans.

“We are very pleased to declare the 2016 Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event,” said Natasha Johnston, Executive Director, Ringette Canada. “The True Sport theme throughout the event will be play fair and we will be running a number of contests and reaching out to our ringette community through our social media networks to bring the True Sport Principles to life.”

“Ringette Canada’s continued commitment to values-based and principle-driven sport is a great example of how True Sport lives from the playground to the podium.” said Karri Dawson, Executive Director of the True Sport Foundation. “When sport is fair, inclusive, and fun, Canadians and their communities are able to reap the many benefits associated with a positive sport experience.”
