Athletics Nova Scotia – Jenna Martin- Evans“Looking Forward to the Meagher International Track Classic”

Jenna Martin-Evansis looking forward to coming home and racing on the track in front of her home crowd.

The Nova Scotia Olympian from 2012 has been working diligently all winter and spring to qualify in the 400 meters for the Games in Rio, and her last tune-up before Canada’s national trials will be the Meagher International Track Classic on June 22nd at HuskyStadium in Halifax. Named in honour of one of Nova Scotia’s best ever female runners,1936 Olympian Aileen Meagher, the meet attracts athletes from multiple countries and inthis Olympic year the competition will be fierce.

After a winter of training 5-6 hours daily on the track and in the weight room in Clermont, Florida, under coach Gary Evans, Jenna Martin-Evans is headed into her competition season with the Games in Rio the goal that keeps her working.

Her multiple years of experience at the internationally elite level has taught her many lessons. For those aspiring to that level her advice is simple.

“Always have fun with the sport. Yes, you need to stay focused and do everything you need to do to become better and to reach your potential, but if you do not allow yourself to enjoy the process you may lose the joy out of it. There was a stage in my career where I took it so serious I did not have fun anymore and I lost the love for the sport and wondered why I was even doing it anymore. But trusting yourself and enjoying the process is all part of it. Never lose who are in the process. Track (or whatever sport your in) is something you do, it is not who you are.“

For those who are track fans, watching Jenna Martin-Evans run here at home in Nova Scotia has been several years of joy. Those who come to see her race at the Meagher International Track Classic on June 22nd may have one of the last opportunities to see Nova Scotia’s best ever female 400m runner compete in front of the home fans.

Martin is appreciative of their support. “I want to thank everyone who has followed my career thus far and who have always been in my corner through the ups and the downs of this sport
.”
