In Canada, addressing harassment, abuse and discrimination in sport is a growing priority. However, this may not be the case in other countries. A study commissioned by the International Working Group on Women and Sport revealed that 37% of signatories to the Brighton Declaration on Women and Sport had not taken any action to address gender-based violence since 2013. Of the 63% of organizations who had taken action, 50% had adopted guidelines for handling cases, 47% had adopted a code of conduct, and 22% had established support mechanisms for victims during that time.
November 25th marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
