OBJECTIVE 

The objective of the St. Andrews College Internship program is to provide students currently enrolled in College or University Sport Business Programs with experience working in strength and conditioning.
Students will get hands on experience working on athletic programming and event delivery. Our goal at St. Andrews College is to provide our interns with opportunities to work with a team who manages the school Athletic Department.  While your primary internship will focus on strength and conditioning, you will be involved as an intern working with a team on the day-to-day event management, marketing, communications and promotions (MARCOMMPRO) of the St. Andrew’s College Athletic Program. Our focus will be to ensure students conclude their internship with a better understanding of the opportunities that exist for a career in an Athletic department at the College or University level.
 

REPORTING TO: 

Associate Director of Athletics 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

·        Completion of in-services with strength & conditioning, sport medicine, or other athletics staff. Topics include Athlete Intake / Screening, Individualized Program Design, Athlete Monitoring, Return to Sport, Weight Room Scheduling / Maintenance, Coaching and Cueing, Sport Coach Communication, and Athlete Wellness & Recovery 

·        Hands On Coaching experience with a wide range of high school ages student athletes, ranging from developing athletes with a low training age to athletes that are preparing for elite sport in national and international competitions 

·        Assist in weekly and term-based athlete monitoring

·        Assist with facility maintenance and cleanliness

·        Learn how to use Teambuildr Athlete Monitoring System, Push Band Velocity Based Training Systems, Hawkins Dynamics Dual Force Platforms and Brower Timing Gates

·        Assist with Cweight room sessions, SAQ (speed, agility, and quickness) sessions, plyometric sessions, dynamic warm-ups, and mobility / recovery sessions

·        Assist with monitoring boarding student open gym sessions 

KEY ATTRIBUTES 

·        Currently working towards a college diploma or university degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science
or other related programs

·        Previous coaching experience in Strength & Conditioning is preferred but not required

·        Have a passion for coaching, athletic development and athlete education

·        Current CPR / First Aid and Vulnerable Sectors Screen

·        Ability to prioritize multiple tasks appropriately, in a fast-paced environment

·        Strong interpersonal skills

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills

·        Strong team player, with the ability to work independently

·        Proficient in all Microsoft Office platforms (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

·        Quick study and willingness to learn

·        Knowledge of the Canadian Sport System

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

Selected candidates will develop essential skills and gain valuable experience in one or more of the following areas with the aim to prepare them for successful careers in sport:

COMPENSATION: 

An honorarium of up to $1,500 is provided for a full-time internship position.
