Position Purpose and Summary

The Recreation Manager works closely with the Director of Athletic Facilities and Recreation (DAFR) to provide recreational opportunities for the members of the University community. The Manager is responsible to oversee the intramural, sport club and summer camp programs; as well as provide oversight to student leaders and student employees.

Additionally, the manager is responsible for ensuring engagement from our internal and external communities in all recreation programs.  Please not this is a fixed-term, ten (10) month contract position.

Key Areas of Accountability

  • Implement and evaluate existing organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating
    procedures within Recreation.
  • Monitor and evaluate operational effectiveness, and implement changes required for
    improvement within recreational programs.
  • Maintain detailed records on program’s revenue, budget, demand, client feedback,
    instructor/trainer feedback, and participation numbers.
  • Plan and implement the intramural program and their student leaders
  • Manage and support the sport club programs and their student leaders
  • Provide administration, hiring and operations for summer camp programs
  • Promote, market and engage the internal and external community in all Recreation
    programs, sport clubs and summer camps to increase participation numbers.
  • In conjunction with the Well-Being and Special Events Coordinator, ensure fitness
    classes, well-being programs and special events are being delivered for students, TWU employees, alumni and community members.  Marketing and operational support here are key aspects of this role.
  • Communicate with the appropriate individuals regarding booking of venues for internal and
    external use while ensuring optimal scheduling for all recreational programs.
  • Interview, select, train, supervise and mentor recreation student leaders and student
    employees.
  • Manage the recreation risk management protocols for all recreation sanctioned activities

Standards & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics, sports management, recreation or related field;
marketing and Sales education will be considered an asset.

Experience: Minimum 4 years experience in recreational programming with specific knowledge of intramural programming, sport clubs management and summer camps operations. Marketing and Sales experience will be considered an asset.

Duties and responsibilities that do not constitute a major change may be added, deleted or
