Past events that Launchpoint has been involved in include the 2019 Grey Cup Festival and 107th Grey Cup Game, the 2020 GLOW Festival, and the 2020, 2021 and 2022 ISU World Cup Speed Skating (among others).
Shaw Charity Classic
The Shaw Charity Classic will host some of the greatest names in golf at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club, August 14 – 20, 2023. The field, which will consist of 78 stars on the PGA TOUR Champions, will compete for $2.4 million US in a three-round, 54-hole stroke-play tournament. The only PGA TOUR Champions stop in Canada will showcase Calgary to the world through its broadcast on the Golf Channel. Led by a philanthropic Patron Group including Tournament Chairman –Jim Riddell, Allan Markin, Keith MacPhail, Guy Turcotte, Gary Peddle, Michael Culbert and PGA Tour Professional – Stephen Ames, along with title sponsor, Shaw Communications, the Shaw Charity Classic won the PGA TOUR Champions’ prestigious President’s Award in 2014, 2015 and 2017. The tournament has raised more than $93 million in its ten years, with a PGA TOUR Champions record setting donation of over $17 million raised in 2022 that was distributed amongst 260 youth-based charities in Alberta.
Job Description
The Marketing & Events Coordinator is an entry level position who will primarily be focused on the Shaw Charity Classic. This individual will play a key role in managing the marketing and creative efforts, in addition to overseeing all special events hosted in conjunction with the tournament. This candidate will work closely with senior management in the planning and execution of the tournament marketing campaign. In addition to overseeing all creative elements of the event (utilizing a creative agency) including the website, social media, sales collateral and other materials. The candidate will also act as the project manager for the various special events and branding activations associated with the tournament, in creating event plans, delegating tasks and ensuring that all deliverables are met in a timely fashion. Ideal candidates will be creative writers who are highly personable, organized and responsive. Candidates should be pursuing a career in marketing with a focus on sports and event management. Exceptional time management and communication skills are essential to success in the role. Experience with Adobe Suite is also desired. In this role you will be working with a tight-knit and collaborative team committed to bringing the most elite sporting event to Calgary. With respect to other events, this individual will also play a key support role in the planning and execution of the upcoming 2024 World Speed Skating Championships and other Launchpoint managed events.
The Job Specifics
Duties may include, but not be limited to the following:
- Manage the Shaw Charity Classic website and act as the lead for all tournament related website updates
- Create engaging content for the Shaw Charity Classic social media accounts and build out a year-long social media schedule aimed at achieving measurable growth in followers and engagement
- Work closely with the senior leadership team in the development of the tournament marketing campaign
- Oversee the planning and execution of all Shaw Charity Classic special events including the Shootout at the Meadows, Pro-Am Pairings Party, RBC Championship Pro-Am, Blakes Women’s Day, Family Day and other events
- Working with the tournament ticketing vendor, plan and execute the tournament ticketing plan, including promotion, sales, pricing and distribution
- Work with tournament media partners and the creative agency to ensure that all creative assets for ads are provided in a timely fashion
- Produce creative for sales collateral, proposal presentations and key insight reports in support of business development efforts
- Maintain the list of branding assets and work closely with the Sales Team to assist in the planning and execution of branding partner activations
- Create content and coordinate the send out of all tournament related e-blasts
- Create and distribute internal reports with metrics relating to ticket sales, social media growth and marketing campaign performance
- Work with tournament partners to obtain digital creative content for on-site video boards, sponsored social media posts, Spectator Guide ads and other creative assets
- Take a key support role in the planning and execution of Launchpoint Initiatives, including the 2024 World Speed Skating Championships
- Maintain and update the Launchpoint website regularly
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in business, sport management, marketing, advertising, communications, or another relevant field
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
- Extremely strong communication skills – oral and written
- Knowledge of traditional and digital marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing
- Determination to support the team and go above and beyond what is expected
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task competing priorities while remaining flexible and calm under pressure
- Adobe Design Suite skills and basic graphic design knowledge are considered a strong asset
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and long hours as required
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Golf experience/ knowledge is not required but considered an asset
