INDEPENDENT DISCIPLINE CHAIR

Position summary:

Appointed by the Board, the Independent Discipline Chair provides leadership and support in overseeing the Discipline and Complaints process collaboratively with the BC Soccer Judicial Body. The Independent Discipline Chair supports BC Soccer in upholding policies and procedures that provide every participant an opportunity to participate in safe and inclusive environments free of abuse, harassment, discrimination, and to enjoy the sport at whatever level or capacity they participate in. The welfare of everyone involved in soccer is the foremost consideration and in particular, the protection of children in the sport is the responsibility of everyone involved.

Role Objectives:

The Independent Discipline Chair is a member of the Judicial Body and carries the responsibility of applying the BC Soccer Discipline, Complaints and Appeals policy and adjudicate Discipline Cases as determined by the Independent Third-Party Organization. The Independent Discipline Chair must act independently from BC Soccer and must not serve on the board, committee(s), advisory groups, or be a staff member of BC Soccer, its Members or Affiliated Organizations in a staff or volunteer capacity.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Attend hearings and/or conference calls
  • Act as mediator, Discipline Panel, or adjudicator as solicited by the ITP in accordance with the Discipline, Complaint, and Appeals Procedures
  • Liaise with BC Soccer staff regarding judicial matters
  • Produce procedural orders, recommend provisional measures, and write and produce disciplinary decisions
  • Assess any failure by an individual or registered organization in completing a sanction and make recommendations to the governing organization on further sanction, discipline, or steps for resolution
  • Administer Discipline Panels in accordance with the “BC Soccer Field of Play Violations Procedure”
  • Act or designate a Discipline Chair for a specific BC Soccer Provincial competition
  • Issue, or appoint a designate to issue, without constituting a Panel, automatic sanctions
  • Investigate the conduct of all persons bound by the BC Soccer Policies, even when said persons are not performing their duties, if such conduct is likely to seriously damage the integrity, image, or reputation of BC Soccer
  • Actively uphold the integrity of the association as it relates to appeals activity
  • Actively contribute and work towards objectives as outlined in BC Soccer’s strategic plan and direction

Commitment and Remuneration:

The position requires commitment of 70-100 hours per year. Annual compensation ranging between $2,000 to $4,000 based on experience for a role of this nature.
