Domestic Events Coordinator

Nature of Work:

 Volleyball Canada is a not-for-profit organization that provides leadership and oversees the development of volleyball in Canada.   The VC Youth National Championships are held on an annual basis and welcomes over 1000 teams over the month of May in various host cities. This position coordinates various aspects of youth national championships and acts as the lead for senior national championships. The ability to work independently while in a team environment will be key to successful event management. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude are a definite asset.  Work will be completed independently with general supervision. Travel and weekend work will be required.

 Event Coordination:

·        In conjunction with all Domestic Competitions staff, support the planning, setup, execution, and post event follow up of all indoor and beach national championships

·        Coordinate the collection and verification of all team rosters

·        Coordinate the preparation and oversee the implementation of coach check-in

·        Coordinate the preparation and onsite management of the competition management software and ensure that rosters, seeding, and schedules are uploaded

·        Coordinate event registration and ensure successful implementation and support to all
teams and staff during the registration period

·        Post event reporting as required

 Competition Schedules

·        Lead the development and implementation of all national championship competition schedules

·        Knowledgeable about volleyball competition schedules and structures

·        Collaborate with competition directors and referee teams in the building and execution of schedules

·        Review schedule structures and identify alternative options for optimal competition experience 

 Senior Nationals

·        With support of the Domestic Competitions staff, coordinate all aspects of the event including host
city selection, facility planning, event planning and execution, and post event duties

·        Identify opportunities for the growth of the event(s)

·        Collaborate with partners in the expansion of the event(s) to hosting multiple divisions. 

 Other Duties:

·        Coordinate and execute the VC High School tournament

·        Support the planning and hosting of international events hosted in Canada as needed

·        Support the planning and hosting of new event initiatives

·        Other duties as required by Volleyball Canada


·        5+ years’ experience in sport event management or administration

·        Previous experience or a strong aptitude for working on mass participation event schedules

·        Undergraduate degree in sport management, recreation, or a related discipline

·        Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing
with staff, coaches, volunteers, and the public in a pleasant and professional manner

·        The ability to work independently demonstrating good judgment in a fast-paced environment

·        Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities,
multi-task, and meet deadlines

·        A positive attitude and an outgoing personality

·        Valid Canadian Driver’s License

·        Knowledge of Volleyball is an asset

·        Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
