Varsity Performance Sport is a unit within Vikes Athletics and Recreation  and the larger division of Student Affairs at the University of Victoria. Varsity Performance Sport builds on a rich athletic tradition of excellence, including numerous national championship titles, and a commitment to providing a supportive high-performance environment for student-athletes. This is reflected in the varsity performance sport program and cultural goals allowing athletes and coaches to aspire to the highest levels of  national and international sport standards in a safe environment.

The Varsity Performance Sport Program is responsible for the development, implementation, assessment and strategic management of varsity sport, team and athlete-specific programs for soccer, rugby, basketball, field-hockey, cross country/track, rowing, swimming and golf; student-athlete programs and the Club Sport Program. Additionally, Varsity Performance Sport provides student-athlete supports, resources and leadership; coaching support, education and development; student-athlete academic and sport compliance; and, leads varsity scholarship development and adjudication, Vikes alumni engagement, partnership development and provides leadership on sport governance matters.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Vikes Athletics and Recreation Services, the Director, Varsity Performance Sport oversees and is accountable for the varsity and sport club sport programs, helping the University continue to meet the evolving needs of the student-athlete experience. The Director seeks ways to strengthen programming; develop strategies and initiatives to provide a supportive high-performance environment for student-athletes and focus on safe sport and the specific needs of high-performance athletes.

The successful candidate will have a graduate (Master’s level) degree with credentials in a related field (e.g., physical education, kinesiology, sport administration, sport management, or a sport business) and over 10 years of experience leading performance sport programs. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience leading strategic and operational planning, implementation and evaluation, and managing operations, budget and finance, human resources and administration.

Additionally, it is essential the successful candidate has comprehensive and progressive understanding of the issues and trends related to leading and supporting varsity student-athletes and coaches and the programs and services required to support high standards of academic and sport performance.
