Reporting to the Chief Brand and Commercial Officer, the Director, Sport Business & Sustainability provides leadership to the Brand & Commercial Management Department (“Department”) and the Sport Business & Sustainability Unit (“Unit”) at the COC. The Director is responsible for planning and overseeing the implementation and delivery of the strategy and business plan for the Brand & Commercial Management Department and the Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF)  and for supporting cross-departmental and cross-enterprise projects. The scope of work includes the following core areas:

  1. Business Strategy, Integration and Planning
  2. Games Business Strategy & Operations
  3. Sustainability & Climate Action
  4. Athlete Marketing and Olympian Legacy
  5. Business Community Representation – Montreal & Quebec regions
  6. Canadian Olympic Experience


This position will be located in the COC office in Montreal, QC, at 500 René-Lévesque Boulevard West.


Guidance & Oversight

  • Oversee Unit performance on deliverables
  • Oversee Unit budgets
  • Ensure talent growth and development of the talent working in the Unit
  • Provide leadership and support to any Brand & Commercial team member based in the Montreal office

Business Strategy,  Integration and Planning

  • Provide leadership in creating annual re-forecasting and quad planning for the Unit, the Department and COF, support any cross-departmental planning strategies and ensure alignment of the department units to the overall corporate vision and objectives
  • Contribute to the development of increased internal alignment, planning and efficient processes among the Department and the COF units
  • Provide strategic project management to cross-departmental and cross-enterprise strategic initiatives such as, but not limited to, Games Future Host and Integration projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant stakeholders
  • Act as strategic business advisor to the Chief Brand & Commercial Officer, COC and Chief Executive Officer, COF

Games Business Strategy & Operations

  • As part of the Games Leadership Team, plan and implement cross-enterprise Games strategy by leveraging the unique positioning of the COC in the Host Country, region and city in the years leading up to, during and after Games
  • Plan and implement the Games business operations plan at Games
  • Ensure optimal integration and effectiveness of all business programs taking place at Games and that each of them are planned and aligned with the overall Games corporate strategy, guiding principles, objectives and timelines
  • Act as Business Lead in the lead-up to Games and build relationships with relevant stakeholders of the Host Country
  • Act as advisor and strategic project lead to the COC’s President, CEO, Executive Staff, Board Members at Games
  • Act as Business Team Operations Lead at Games and support Business Team functional area leads including Protocol Services, Sport Partner Leadership Services, Legal Services, Digital/Communications and Canada Olympic House as well as other Games Functional Areas, when required
  • Oversee creation of relevant tools and processes to the different business functional area leads in their planning process

Sustainability & Climate Action

  • Oversee COC’s cross-enterprise Sustainability & Climate Action vision
  • Plan and implement the COC’s 2030 & 2040 Climate Action Plan to support its commitment to the United Nations’ Sport for Climate Action Framework
  • Act as the COC’s sustainability representative to the United Nations, the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic movement
  • Provide advice and expertise to all COC functions and ensure proper consideration of sustainability and climate action within the existing and future programs across the organization

Athlete Marketing and Olympian Legacy

  • Provide leadership and support to Athlete Marketing and Olympian Legacy unit
  • Ensure continuous integration of athletes’ perspectives and interests into the different units’ strategies and action plans

Business Community Representation – Montreal & Quebec regions

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with any relevant stakeholders from the francophone and Quebec related business community
  • Identify business opportunities in the Quebec and francophone market, where relevant
  • Act as COC’s representative in relevant sport business events in the Quebec and francophone market

Canadian Olympic Experience

  • Provide leadership and support to the Operations team for the Experience
  • Lead the strategic planning and direction for the Experience
  • Lead government relations for the purposes of the Experience
  • Ensure connection and integration between the Experience and the COC


Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent in management or business or related field; MBA considered a strong asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian and International Sport System
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, including in strategic planning
