The Mattamy Athletic Centre is a multipurpose sports and entertainment facility that is located in the former Maple Leaf Gardens. The facility consists of an arena that seats approximately 2,700 for hockey and ice events, and 4,000 for stage events. There is also a double gym that can accommodate 1,000 spectators, over 10,000 square feet of office and meeting room space, and a 7,000 square foot fitness and high performance centre. As a valued member of the building operations team, you will contribute to the overall operation of the entire facility.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is “hands-on” in all aspects of general building operations duties including daily arena/basketball court maintenance and event set-up. You will be part of the Operations Team that delivers “top shelf” building operation services to our client, our students, our customers and visitors.

Job Functions / Areas of Responsibility

·      Oversee shift Operations staff including part-time Operations staff, conversion team and custodial crew.

·      Assist Operations Manager with projects as requested.

·      Perform hourly, daily and weekly rink maintenance.

·       Assist with event logistics including room setups & conversions.

·      Maintain all work areas known as “back of house”, including storage rooms and loading dock.

·       Undertake minor janitorial duties.

·       Communicate with coworkers, clients and visitors on all venue and even related needs.

·       Ensure adherence with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

·        Fill out daily shift reports and identify any maintenance issues.

·        Maintain the court and safety checklists for all equipment.

·        Work with contractors including plumbers, electricians, locksmiths etc on all work orders.


  • Previous experience and ability to operate Ice Resurfacers required.
  • Minimum of (2) years’ experience in an operations related position, preferably in a Public Assembly/Recreations Facility.
  • Experience working with forklifts, hockey acrylic spectator shielding and rink conversions preferred.
  • Certified Ice Technician designation from ORFA an asset.
