We are seeking a full-time Assistant Head Coach who can work alongside our Head Coach to build
on the established culture of our club and continue our tradition of developing national and international competitive athletes.  We are looking for a valuable candidate who will also be in charge of our grassroots program as Academy Coordinator, developing our pre-competitive program and helping the club to build a strong foundation of good young swimmers.

●      Manta Swim Club, a nonprofit organization, has been a top performing team since its inception 41 years ago, having achieved more Provincial team titles, Western Canada team titles, provincial records, Canadian records, World records, Olympians than all other Manitoba clubs combined.

●      Manta swimmers are known to develop resilience, a strong work ethic and desire to excel at all life’s pursuits.

●       With over 250 members, Manta is a growing, inclusive, competitive age group swim team offering professional coaching and technical instruction.

●       Our competitive programs are housed out of Winnipeg’s Pan Am Pool, consisting of two-8 lane 50 meter tanks. Pan Am Pool is one of the premier aquatic facilities in Canada that hosts a number of world-class aquatic events.

●      All competitive swimmers have access to one of the most comprehensive land training programs and videotape analysis tools, assuring our athletes’ time spent in their preferred sport is productive
and can meet high standards.

Position Responsibilities

●      Assist the Head Coach with the Elite group to help improve the training environment and promote the development of high performing swimmers;

●      Coach the Elite group when the Head Coach is not available to participate in training, regardless of whether he is unavailable due to illness or away for National Camps or competitions;

●      Review and submit all the meet entries for the competitive side of the club, making sure swimmers are registered and meet fees are paid before the deadline;

●      Promote team spirit and good sportsmanship both on and off deck;

●      Participate in swim club events as the Assistant Head Coach of Manta, such as the annual award recognition dinner, swim-a-thon, team building events, etc.;

●        Practice continuous improvement and professional development for self and coaching staff;

●        Collaborate with the swim community to help further the swimming ecosystem in the province;

●        Communicate with the Manta community regarding upcoming meets, results, requirements, trainings and general updates;

●        Keep up-to-date and familiar with Team Unify Software, including meet entries, general communication and overall team administration;

●        If the Head Coach is not available, attend monthly Board of Directors’ meeting in his behalf, presenting the monthly Head Coach’s report;

●        Oversee various administrative functions such as pool scheduling, notification of practice or meet-related changes or updates;

●        Provide oversight and direction to the General Manager to ensure day to day operations of the club run smoothly;

●        Represent Manta Swim Club positively in public and private forums, and not engage in conduct or act in such a manner that reflects adversely on Manta Swim Club or its athletic programs. Coach shall
perform his duties and personally conduct himself at all times in a manner consistent with good sportsmanship and with high moral, ethical and professional standards;

 ●      As the Manta Academy Director:

○      Design, in collaboration with the Head Coach, a swimming curriculum for the Academy groups:

○      Design, in collaboration with the Head Coach and the GM, a training schedule for the Academy groups;

○      Review and submit all the meet entries for the Academy swimmers, making sure swimmers are registered and meet fees are paid before the deadline;

○      Recruit, mentor and lead the Academy coaching staff, while keeping an open and constant communication with them;

○       Keep an open line of communication via phone or email with the parents of the Academy swimmers, making time to meet them in person if requested;

○      Attend try-out sessions, complete assessments of new swimmers and make recommendations as to the appropriate group for registration;

○      Attend swim meets, in-house competitions and time trials where Academy swimmers compete;
work with the Academy Junior Coaches to make sure meet entries for these competitions are submitted on time;

○      Organize coach visitations to maintain a fluid, consistent delivery of the swimming curriculum;

○      Provide the Head Coach, on a regular basis, with evaluations of each group and each coach of the Academy;

developmental swimmers and Developmental and Junior Coaches.

Qualifications:

●      Previous experience of managing a group and collaborating with other coaches

●       Holds a Canadian Level 2 NCCP accreditation or equivalent

●       Possess expert knowledge in all technical aspects of competitive swimming

●       Minimum of 5 year coaching experience

●       Strong technical, organizational, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills

●       Knowledge of Team Unify Swim Office system, as well as knowledge of Hy-tek entry files and general computer skills
