The ideal candidate is committed to leading the program while focused upon delivery of a superb student-athlete experience. This part-time position is responsible for supporting all coaching elements associated with the Figure Skating Synchro program. Reporting to the Figure Skating Head Coach, the incumbent is responsible for the overall direction, planning, team selection, and player development of the Synchro Program. The head coach ensures compliance with all McMaster and OUA policies, rules, and regulations.

The coach will work cooperatively with the head coach in event scheduling, facility, travel planning, budgeting, purchasing of equipment and apparel, alumni engagement and completing other administrative requirements.

The Figure Skating season begins at beginning of September, with competitions beginning in the Winter and finishing with OUA Championships in February. There is some flexibility in practice scheduling to accommodate the successful candidates’ schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Outstanding character, integrity, passion, and a commitment to excellence

• Excellent communicator with strong teaching and technical figure skating skills

• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated team player

• Commitment to promotion equity, diversity, and inclusion

• Be knowledgeable in the technical, tactical, physical and psychological elements of Figure Skating

• Preference to those with a minimum of 2 years of experience in coaching (college or university preferred)

• Preference to those who have competed in Figure Skating at a post-secondary level

• Preference to candidates that have who have minimally completed NCCP Community Club Coach.

• Preference to those applicants with at minimum a bachelor’s degree

• A willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends is required.

• The successful candidate will require a vulnerable sector check, as well as supplemental training offered through NCCP.

LENGTH OF APPOINTMENT:

The appointment will be for one year commencing June 1, 2023 with the option to renew pending a year-end performance evaluation.
